The Good, the Bad and the happiGut™
The importance of a balanced gut and digestive health in connection to many systems of our body such as immunity, cardiovascular, metabolic, and blood glucose modulation is enormous. Simply put, the path to good health is through the gut.
The gut is home to the most extensive collection of immune cells in the body. It is reported by scientists that bacteria-and-immune-system-meet”>70%-80% of our immune cells reside in the gut.
Scientists have come to understand and know more about how the bacteria that live in our gastrointestinal tract have a profound influence on illnesses that can manifest in our bodies. A resilient gut microbiome is one fed with an abundant, and diverse diet of nutrient dense prebiotic high fibre foods.
The balance, diversity, and abundance of the good over bad bacteria in our guts ultimately determines the state of our gut health. Poor diet, lifestyle choices, stress, and environmental toxins can put us out of balance leading to poor digestion, decreased nutrient absorption, and diminished health.
[[Gut microbiota]] is characterized by diversity, stability, and resilience which has a mutually beneficial relationship to the host body. The Gut is akin to a “super organism” that performs important immune and metabolic functions as well as being key regulators of digestion, extraction, and absorption of nutrients, metabolites, vitamins, and short chain fatty acids (SCFAs)
This super organism, the gut, plays a crucial role in immune function by protecting against and inhibiting the growth of pathogens that make our bodies sick.
The microbiota in our microbiome have a mutually beneficial relationship with us, we feed them healthy food like prebiotics and they take care of us.
The Plant, the Whole Plant and Nothing but the Plant
Many of us know the feeling of digestive discomfort, pain, bloating, and much worse. Some of us experience this daily and maybe have forgotten what it feels like to be well, energetic, and free from digestive pain.
A diet rich with nutrients from vegetables, fruits, and fibre is necessary for staying healthy … but there is more to this.
A diet high in fibre and nutrition should not be complicated. We’ve made it simple by offering a versatile, easy to use whole plant prebiotic fibre, happiGut™
“Feeding the whole gut and the whole body”
Nature gifted us with a unique whole plant complex fibre inherently abundant with prebiotics and nutrients when it created the sugarcane plant. We carefully extracted the fibre using a low temperature water process, without using chemicals, to preserve the nutrition and unlock the ultimate whole plant complex prebiotic fibre for whole gut health. The nutrition of the cell wall structure of the plant remains but without the accompanying carbohydrate sugars or lipids that are present in most fruits or vegetables.
Our gastrointestinal system has a complex job to do, and multiple aspects of the body’s health depend on its optimal functioning.
Creating abundance and diversity of good bacteria in our gut happens through a process of fermentation when the gut is fed prebiotic fibre and nutrients.
Short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) are major end products of bacterial fermentation in the human colon and are known to have wide-ranging impacts on the body.
Upon reaching the large intestine, fibre is used as an energy source by the bacteria in the body. This process is called fermentation. Our friendly gut bacteria, when nourished by fibre, produces Short Chain Fatty Acids (SCFA) through fermentation.
fermentation primarily produces the SCFAs: acetate, propionate, and butyrate.
“The nutrient transporter – SCFAs” butyrate”
One of the key SCFAs is butyrate and is the main fuel source for colonocytes, the cells that line the gut. butyrate maintains the gut cell barrier, suppresses inflammation through regulation of the immune system, helps balance glucose levels in the gut, and helps regulate appetite.
butyrate functions to help cells fulfil their functions to nourish, strengthen, and protect the lining of the gut.
butyrate, in particular, is important for maintaining health via regulation of the immune system, maintenance of the epithelial barrier, and promotion of satiety following meals. It may be protective against several diseases, including colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, graft-versus-host disease, diabetes, and obesity. Therefore, stimulating butyrate production by the colonic microbiome could be useful for sustaining health and treating diseases. It’s important to note, not all fermentable fibres are equally capable of stimulating SCFA production.
A clean prebiotic whole plant fibre that slowly ferments throughout the whole gastrointestinal tract has a greater capacity for nutrient transformation.
After their production, these SCFAs are transported to the liver, the blood circulation, or absorbed by intestinal cells where their effects can influence systems throughout the body
SCFA are the main source of nutrition to our cells in the colon. They are incredibly important in helping to transform and transport nutrients. A diet high in prebiotic fibre boosts butyrate production and helps the good bacteria thrive in our guts.
Complex Fibre – The Inside Tract and More
The health benefits of dietary fibre have been long studied and accepted as an essential component of our daily nutrient intake. A high fibre diet is linked with a range of health benefits including lower blood sugar, reduced levels of cholesterol, digestive regularity, weight management, and numerous digestive disorders.
The majority of dietary fibre originates in the plant cell walls. Dietary fibre refers to a diverse group of complex carbohydrates that resist digestion by humans. Because we lack enzymes to break them down, fibre essentially passes through the digestive system unchanged.
Dietary fibre is a plant-based nutrient that is sometimes called roughage or bulk. It does a lot of work as it passes through our intestines. The source of fibre is very important. Read more to find out why.
There are two forms of dietary fibre; soluble and insoluble.
- Soluble fibre dissolves to create a gel that improves digestion in several ways, such as reducing blood cholesterol and blood glucose levels.
- Insoluble fibre attracts water into your stool, thereby making it easier on the bowels and promoting regularity.
- happiGut™ contains both soluble and insoluble fibres. Trials have shown the 85% of the Cellulose and Hemicellulose in happiGut™ is fermented in the colon producing beneficial SCFA that is consistently fermented throughout the full length of the colon. Something that soluble fibre alone cannot accomplish.
Both have their jobs in the gut, and both benefit our health in different and complementary ways. The ideal complex fibre includes a complex set of fibres to obtain the full benefits of whole plant nutrition.
happiGut™ whole plant prebiotic fibre contains both soluble and insoluble fibre in the form of hemicellulose, pectin (both soluble) and lignin (insoluble), thus providing the full benefits of complex fibre plus the inherent phytonutrients from the sugarcane plant.
The plant cell-based fibre complex of Kfibre, the single ingredient in happiGut™, has a multitude of different cell wall bound glycans related to the cell wall complex of many plant materials. happiGut™ has a scientific study to determine the fermentability and prebiotic capability of Kfibre, with clear indications that it provides both an effective feed source for the support of and proliferation of advantageous bacteria with by- product synthesis of nutrients such as Short Chain Fatty Acids (SCFAs).
happiGut™ is an essential whole food dietary prebiotic fibre. It contains as much complex fibre benefits as two servings of fruit or vegetables but without the sugar and just like fruits and vegetables, contains mineral and trace vitamins, as well as more of the antioxidants and policosanol (shown to be anti-inflammatory), and more flavonoids than green tea.
prebiotic fibre feeds beneficial bacteria in our guts. They are indigestible fibres that are food for probiotics and are a necessary part of ensuring good gut health. If you think of your gut as a garden, then the prebiotics are the fertilizer food for your flowers.
happiGut™ is a whole plant prebiotic fibre with a complex set of compounds including phytonutrients and antioxidants.
While all prebiotics are fibres, not all fibres are prebiotic.
Beyond serving as nutrition for probiotics, supporting your gut health, and enhancing (link to study on prebiotic effects) your immune system — prebiotics have additional benefits when you consume them.
Some of the health benefits of prebiotic fibres include:
- Enhancing mineral absorption, potential anti-cancer properties, anti-inflammatory, and other immune-assisting effects – A 2011 study published in the Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology reported on these findings.
- Encouraging normal blood sugar levels – A 2013 study published in the journal Endocrine Practice found that prebiotics may be beneficial for prediabetes and type 2 diabetes.
- Aiding weight loss – A 2002 study published in The British Journal of Nutrition found that prebiotic foods promote a feeling of fullness, which helps prevent obesity and aids weight loss.
Boosting bone health. A 2007 study published in The Journal of Nutrition found that prebiotics enhance the absorption of minerals in the body, including magnesium and possibly iron and calcium — which are all necessary for healthy bones.
The 3 Ps of Gut Health and Beyond
We know the makeup and balance of the [gut microbiota] have both negative and positive impacts on our health. To keep us healthy, we need to feed our gut with an abundance, diversity, and richness of superfood for the gut bacteria. This helps to fortify and flourish the bacteria, providing numerous benefits to the whole body.
This amazing balancing act and transformation within the gut is dependent on the 3 Ps of gut health; Prebiotics, Probiotics, and Postbiotics. What are these? Why do we need them? and how do they help to keep us healthy, resilient, and feed, fortify & flourish our gut
Probiotics are living organisms that need to stay alive to support the gut. That’s where prebiotic fibre comes in. Whole plant nutrient-rich prebiotic fibre is the perfect nutrition to feed for the hungry probiotic bacteria living in the gut.
The good bacteria in the gut then can multiply, strengthen and flourish in our guts. Their primary function is to ferment non-digestible prebiotic fibres, which result in the production of a wide range of nutrient compounds known as postbiotic metabolites.
Abundance and diversity of good gut bacteria comes from a diverse diet of nutrient-dense foods. When the gut flora is abundant and diverse, nourishing the healthy gut bacteria, then the gut will produce all the postbiotics that your body needs.
All three P’s work together to confer benefits to the body generated from a healthy gut microbiome.
Together, prebiotic fibres feed probiotic bacteria that help the good bacteria grow and stary nourished. Important nutrients or metabolites are generated as a by-product of the fermentation of the fibres. These metabolites or by-products are the postbiotics, which go on to support the gut, and its barrier, which then fortifies our health by sending important nutrients to our body.
happiGut / Kfibre research
The link between diet and its effect on various bacterial populations within our gut was developed in the 1960s, laying the foundation for the study of prebiotics.
As a result, there have been an increasing number of studies that show the association between many health conditions such as IBS, IBD, and inflammation, and the imbalance of [gut microbiota], as well as the impact prebiotic fibres have in moderating cholesterol, blood glucose, metabolism and digestive disorders.
NutriFoods aims to provide consumers with credible information to advance the understanding of prebiotics, gut health, and the associated benefits with prebiotic plant-based foods and nutrition.
The following studies provide a categorized list and summary of studies and research to explore information to support our well-being.
Millions of people report experiencing digestive discomfort, including symptoms of bloating, abdominal pain, constipation, lethargy, and low mood. More than 1/3 of the population of the western world reports experiencing distress in their stomachs.
Each day we are grateful for the number of people who find relief, support, and transformation of their health by taking happiGut™️ prebiotic fibre.
Here are a few whose gut reactions have been life-changing:
I am absolutely thrilled with this product. I’ve been suffering from indigestion, gas and bloating on and off for over 15 years. After the first week, I noticed that I hadn’t. felt any indigestion. Only once or twice in one month did I feel slight indigestion. I will continue to use this product, as I am completely satisfied.
My husband and I have been using Kfibre. I have been using the Kfibre for 3 years. I have found if beneficial for general wellbeing. t feel that fibre is important in the diet. My husband has been taking the Kfibre for 7months as he is losing weight. He finds the Kfibre takes the edge off his appetite.
Made me regular in bowel movements; less bloating; more energetic
I have had stomach aches for the last 3 or 4 years daily. After seeing doctors and changing diet found nothing. After taking kfibre I had immediate results, no pain for 30 days and no constipation and am very regular. Feel like I have a new life.
Thank You for introducing me to Kfibre. For years I have had a serious problem with Diverticulitis (Bowel Problem), all the previous liquid, pills and fibre medications prescribed for me have not had any effect to help this situation. Kfibre seems to have a solution for my system, I have been taking it for several months, with Positive Results. I had given up hope of finding any relief, and it seems with Kfibre I am on the Right Track. Hopefully, Kfibre will be available in the U.S. market soon.
I felt like my digestion was better, and an end to diarrhoea.
I have experienced chronic pains four to five days a week for over 30 years. Closing on three weeks, I’ve not had any pain. I have periodically been constipated, but not to the degree to which I’ve grown accustomed. I’ve also experimented with dosage, having settled on two heaping teaspoons a day.
Bloating and the inability to digest certain foods leading to pain and discomfort has been something I’ve been living with for years. happiGut has relieved me of these symptoms and I can get through the day without worrying about pain after I eat.
At first I was worried about sugar content in Kfibre (happiGut), but upon reading the literature realized it wasn’t a concern. I found the product helpful in regaining smoother, more regular evacuation. I also like its light texture and pleasantly mild flavour.
I am sleeping deeper…..and I haven’t had a toilet explosion since day two so I’m very happy. Dec 2020
This powder is amazing. I am 25 years old and have suffered from extreme constipation for probably six months now which has been causing me all sorts of grief. I went to the doctor who advised me to take a laxative. The laxative worked but I didn’t want to rely on it, but as soon as I stopped taking it I was constipated again! My Mum recommended I try Kfiber and OMG I am so glad I did!!
This powder is literally a lifesaver. Even have my partner taking it now too and he rates it 10/10. Amazing product and service.
My 6-year-old son had been prescribed laxatives.
This is an amazing product! The best thing to keep me regular. My 6-year-old son had been prescribed laxatives from our Paed to treat his enkopresis but it was so hard to get the dosage right often resulting in loose stools or stomach pains.
I didn’t feel comfortable keeping him on laxatives long term so I did some research and found Kfibre. He had it every night with chocolate milk and is now regular every day.
The texture is a little hard to get used to. I prefer mine mixed in yoghurt and he likes his in milk. Highly recommend
